Why Culture Matters

After over 20 years as a Compensation Consultant, I know it is critical to organization success to pay at or near market pay rates.  Especially in a tight labor market, which is our current reality, getting and keeping the best people requires knowing what market pay is for jobs in an organization and paying accordingly.

Attract, Engage and Retain Employees

While offering a competitive total compensation package to employees is a large part of running a successful business, and must be in place to attract the right talent, having a culture that draws people to the organization and causes them to want to stay and perform at high levels is what keeps them engaged.

Creating an environment where people feel their contributions are valued, their boss cares about them as a person, and they are given opportunities to grow personally and professionally, is the foundation for a good company culture.  Managers who are actually also leaders, the permission to speak and be heard when employees and managers have less than positive things to share, and employees who can state and support the mission and values of the organization are the next level of strong culture markers.

ROI Increases When Culture Is a Priority

Finally, great culture supports maximizing Return on Investment (ROI).  When the right people are in the right seats doing the right work in a company with an excellent culture, net profits are proven to be higher than when these elements are not in play.
